We had been waiting for a sunny day to go to Tigre and finally on Monday that day had arrived! Tigre is north of Buenos Aires city and is accessible by train which took about 45 minutes and cost 50p each return! Some things in Argentina are expensive compared to Britain (I think food cost in the supermarket is expensive) and some things are really cheap! It just goes to show how crazy it is that every year TFL put the price of a travel card up in London. London must be a super expensive city to visit as a tourist. Anyway our trip to Tigre was lovely, we walked out of the train station and were greeted with a beautiful river where boats are lined up to take you into the Delta. It is like a network of rivers with houses that are only accessible by boat so all the people living there have to do their food shopping by getting in their boat and driving to Tigre mainland! It is beautiful and definitely somewhere I would buy a house if I was a rich Porteña (Argentinan women from Buenos Aires). This is a map of what I am talking about.
Nathan and I got a boat with a man who lived in one of these beautiful houses who was giving tours, so we drove around on his boat for a while looking at the houses, school and churches! We walked around the little town of Tigre and headed back to BA on the train.
We went to the Japanese Garden on Wednesday which was beautiful and so peaceful in the middle of a busy city. It was so nice to sit with the sun shining on us finally after some cold days last week.
In the evening we went for a Tango lesson which was hilarious and so busy. When we turned up I thought there wasn't going to be many people but there was about 100 when the class started. We got split into beginners, intimidate an experts. Nathan and I started off having a few issues and the instructor had to tell us to stop arguing about who was going right and wrong (hahaha!) eventually we got the hang of it and have decided to go back again next week.
We went to a park along the coast which is a memorial to victims of terrorism and oppression which was really beautiful and had some sculptures which had fantastic meanings. My favourite was this one which was of prisons and detention centres but has been overturned and the doors opened to show freedom.
Friday night we headed back to see the National Orchestra again as they were so good last week. Well this week was even better, they had an accordion as the soloist in the first piece which was unbelievable as I have never seen an accordion in a orchestra before, the guy was so talented! In the second piece there was a full choir and a children's choir which was beautiful to hear. One interesting thing that happened was just as the children's choir was singing their opening note someone's phone went off in the front row and the conductor turned around to face the audience and glared down at the person who's phone had gone off, I found myself letting out a gasp as it was so shocking, I would have been so embarrassed if that was me!
We have 11 nights left in BA until we start travelling again and lots to do still, hope everyone is well back home we send you all our love x
