As we headed to the airport in the taxi Nathan started to look pretty ill. By the time we were in the check in line he looked positively white! A few minutes later he threw his bag on the floor and crumpled into it saying 'I'm going to faint!' So now I'm in a line with 2 massive bags, 2 carry on bags and a grey/white husband! Nathan knew he had to try his hardest to look normal so that we weren't refused boarding.
We got to the boarding gate and Nathan laid on the chairs, I'd never seen him look this bad, he now hadn't eaten for 24 hours and he was looking dreadful. We managed to get on the plane and Nathan tried to sleep!
When we landed we headed straight to baggage claim and Nathan's bag came out straight away. 15 minutes later the baggage belt stopped and a lady told me I had to go to lot baggage to report my bag! Nathan looked like he was going to collapse so I headed to lost baggage while he remained seated. 10 minutes into being lined up the baggage belt started moving and out popped my bag! Thank goodness!
Next mission was getting a cab! Coming out of Bogotá airport remined me of the train station in Delhi in India, we were swamped! People everywhere! We battled our way through and got a cab!
15 minutes into the journey and there was a problem! The road we needed was blocked! I couldn't believe it, we now had to take the long route round and all Nathan needed was to get into bed.
Eventually we arrived and Nathan jumped into bed and remained there for the next 48 hours! The 48 that followed that he managed to get up and showered but only out of the apartment for a short 30 minutes.
So Thursday was when we first went out in Bogotá. We headed to a restaurant near to our apartment called Las Margaritas as we wanted to try the traditional Columbian soup Ajiaco and we defiantly were not disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant the waitress was friendly and directed us to a table where we looked over the menu.
We ordered two empanadas. I love that in every country we have been to they have tasted totally different. These were wonderful and we quickly ordered two more.
The Ajiaco soup is served with avocado, corn, rice, cream and capers on the side that you add as you go. The flavour of the soup was thick and rich and I loved the accompanying items.
The chef came out and spoke to us about London and Bogotá and how we were enjoying South America which was really nice.
After lunch we headed off to downtown Bogotá where we walked around for a while and took some photos of the churches and main square.
Then walking along a quieter street a man stumbled up to us, clearly drunk and was asking for money. With my limited Spanish I thought he was begging but Nathan later informed me he was demanding it. I kept my head down and carried on walking, but my eyes caught his pocket, he had his hand in it and was acting like there was gun inside, but then I thought to myself don't be so paranoid he is just begging. We carried on walking and luckily there were two police officers ahead of us on the street. We turned onto a busier street and he disappeared! 'Wow' Nathan said 'that was the worst attempted robbery ever!' I looked at him confused and said 'Was he trying to rob us?' Nathan replied 'yeah he was pretending he had a gun in his pocket and was demanding money and phones!'
After this we decided to head back to the bus stop, but first we had to cut through the craziest market/boot sale/Christmas madness! There was plastic and tinsel everywhere, it was like Dagenham Market but selling stuff from 1985! As we walked along Nathan felt something on his little backpack and spun around to find a woman unzipping his bag and trying to take what was inside! She quickly turned and pretended to be talking to someone, I looked at Nathan's bag and she had unzipped the first pocket which had nothing in it and was half way through unzipping the main part when he had realised. The funny thing was that she went to all that effort for a bottle of water as I had all the money on me as no way would we put it in a backpack!
Gosh 2 attempted robberies in one day and for the last 4 and a half months in South America we have had nothing! This lead to us having a chat about how much we wanted to do in Bogotá on Friday and Saturday and we decided we would chill out and stay a little more local to our apartment.
Friday we headed back to Las Margaritas, it was too good not to go back one more time. Then on Saturday we headed to an English pub for an English breakfast and the premiership football! We haven't been to any western food chains or places in the entire 20 weeks but felt that for our last day it might be nice to have fried eggs and beans (to celebrate Middlesborough's 2-0 win over Derby)
