One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well - Virginia Woolf
I have decided that food posts and sightseeing posts will be mostly separate as there is too much to discuss when it comes to what we have been eating and drinking. We live on a street with some very cool bars and restaurants and where possible we have been trying on our 'treat nights' to try them out.
So on Thursday we went to an Italian restaurant in the neighbourhood called La Cucina de Michele which was really fancy (by Nathan and my standards) we started with an antipasti from the buffet in the middle of the restaurant which was gorgeous and full of my favourite things.
Then for the main course we opted for the special taster menu, which consisted of four different pastas to try.
1 - A pasta shell stuffed with pork and a light cream pesto sauce.
2 - A fried cheese ravioli with a dark cream pesto type sauce.
3 - Gnocchi with mozzarella in the centre and three small meatballs in a tomato and basil sauce
4 - Fat fettuccine type pasta in a cream, tomato and chilli sauce!
For dessert we had a lemon sorbet that my brother Peter would have loved and we shared a bottle of red wine. The whole meal was amazing but far too much food we could not move afterwards.
Now to mention breakfast. Every morning in the B&B we are staying in we get a fabulous spread of whole wheat cereal, fruit, toast with jam and freshly squeezed orange juice and tea with milk. We will both definitely miss this every morning when we leave on the 24th.
Another great food experience here in Buenos Aires which I know I have mentioned are the food trucks so I apologise if I am repeating myself. These trucks seem to make 3 different sandwiches. Grilled beef, grilled pork or sausage with cheese, egg and salad on. They are definitely a must try when in this city.
As for drinks we have mostly been sticking to the traditional red wine but last night we went to a local bar in the neighbourhood called Antares where they serve speciality brewed beers which is something Nathan and I love trying back home in London. We order the tasting platter of 4 little 1/4 pints of different beers to try.
When we were finished we got given another 4 little beers as it was happy hour and buy one drink get one free so that was great as we spent £5 all night. We got chatting to two Argentinian guys at the bar who were funny.
So when it isn't treat night and we aren't eating out we have been cooking pastas or eating salads. This has turned into our favourite 'Veggie Carbonara' which is basically spaghetti, 3 eggs, cream, cheese, black pepper, onion and garlic (and a chilli for me). It's really simply and tastes amazing. But obviously due to the cream etc we have to limit ourselves to once a week.
We have some volunteer projects coming up in Oct and Nov. The one in November is building a sustainable home and we will be camping on the land for 3 weeks and cooking on a BBQ every night for around 10 people. Nathan and I are helping with the build and also the cooking so hopefully I will put some exciting food photos on the blog for those foodies like me!
Have a great week everyone xxxx
