Sitting in a coffee shop in Surat Thani airport after our ferry and bus journey from Koh Samui I received a whatsapp from Lauren. I was happy to hear she had arrived safely and that she had had a great morning walking about eating fruit but was shocked when she told me there were only 3 beds in the apartment! I messaged the guy who we were renting from who ensured me there were 5 beds, a king, a queen and a single. I asked Lauren to look around the apartment thinking that maybe there was another door that she hadn't opened, to which she sent me a photo of a single bed and a king bed. The guy we were renting from the agreed to put in another bed and turned up with a dirty mattress! It was funny when she was sending me the photos and the guy was replying saying 5 of us could fit. By the time we arrived Lauren had managed to get them to bring two more single beds!
Tasha met us at the airport and her luggage hasn't arrived. Luckily it came to the apartment a few hours later.
We were all excited to be in Bangkok and for our adventure to begin!
We headed out across the road for a cocktail and then to a restaurant called Tealicious which I will definitely be returning to! It was run by a family, the guy was from Kent, his wife was from Bangkok, they had a little 6 year old daughter. They were so lovely and chatted to us for ages.
The food was insane! It was amazing but also so spicy. The girls had western spicy and Lauren had to order another dish as her first one was too hot. I had Thai spicy and I can honestly say I've never had anything so hot! My whole face was numb towards the end of the dish!
We had a lovely first evening, chatting, eating and drinking wine.
The next morning we had girlie time and the four of us headed out into Bangkok to explore.
First stop was the smoothie stall on the Khao San Road.
The fruit stalls in South East Asia are amazing, there are hundreds of fruits to choose from and blend together.
We walked along the markets. Lauren was loving it.
Then we jumped in our first tuktuk. This was a great experience, it's a great way to travel around.
We were taken to a boat dock where we paid a guy to take us on his wooden long boat around the little canals in Bangkok.
The waterways were awesome, it was like a little secret world where people live, swim, have shops and sells items along and on the river in boats.
We loved seeing the houses which were on stilts at the waters edge.
We got off and walked along the wooden walkway looking in at the different items the families were selling.
A boat pulled up next to us and started feeding the fish, there were hundreds of them splashing around on the surface of the water.
We saw a few temples along the way too
We went back to near the apartment for lunch on a street corner local place.
Then we had a walk around the streets and headed to the airport with 5 of us squashed into the cab!
A great 24 hours in Bangkok we are looking forward to coming back and seeing more at the end of our trip!
